After reading Ire Aderinokun ‘s review of her previous years, I’m challenged to do a review of my year. I really love the way she put things together, so I’ll be using her template.

Prior to this year, I’ve been a Software Developer in Java and an aspiring AI/ML researcher, not like I’ve really done anything on AI, I just enjoy spending time thinking about the autonomous world.

2019 has been the best year I’ve experienced in a while, I became smarter and better both in thoughts and achievements.

In 2019,

  • I developed great interest in reading books
  • I adapted a new programming language (Python)
  • I started implementing Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence libraries in creating solutions.

I think it’s safe to pick each month of the year and share its highlights.

January

January wasn’t really nice but it was also funny cause I applied for internship placement in various international companies of which I got rejected in most and I never got any replies from the rest. I started the second semester of my third year

February

In February, I got to meet the love of my life, Python Programming language 😂😂 (I actually had to break up with Java but I really don’t regret my actions even though I still get to hangout with Java once in a while). Yeeee, I got a 2018 13’ MacBook Pro which I currently call nameless. I joined Covenant University Developers Community this month

March

In March, as a member of CDC, I started attending tech meet-up, I got to meet awesome developers like Luke, Nicholas Kajoh, Emmanuel Awotunde and a lot more. Also, I started creating classes in python and spent some time reading python docs and the book Learn Python the Hard Way

April

Well, this month I got to fall in love with Django web framework and I started developing web applications with it. I did build a blog app with it. Thanks for the massive support I received from Luke.

May

May was really calm, I just had end of semester exams and I had a deeper look at the django framework. I vacated from school to begin summer break

June

My holiday had just begun so I was having a good time, I kept improving on my knowledge of python and django framework.

July

Ouukayy, The major highlight of this month was that I got to meet Ire Aderinokun on Instagram and Twitter (pretty sad cause I’ve still not met her in person ) and I fell in love with her lifestyle and achievements (even though we don’t do the same thing ). Actually, I picked up my first book for the year (actually the first book in my entire reading career), Educated by Tara Westover from her one of her instagram posts. I really enjoyed the book and it set me on track to start reading books

August

August was basically think, code and learn. I developed an e-commerce website using python. I started learning and implementing bits of ML/AI libraries. One good thing I did was to bless my hair by putting some waves in it 😎🌊🌊, so next time you see me, please thread softly, so you don’t drown. Books I read : One of Us is lying and My Sister, The Serial Killer

September

More like August, September was all think, code and learn. I got to work with a SaaS startup, where I wrote python scripts for forecasting, metrics and viewing of various accounts on a single platform. I also resumed back to school for the semester. Books I read: So Good They Can’t Ignore You , The Lean Startup Model and Life 3.0:Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.

October

October was really chilled. Spent most of it working on projects. I got to read Half of a Yellow Sun by Adichie Chimamanda, The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris and God’s Debris by Scott Adams. I enjoyed my journey through every single one of those books. I actually got to know about 2 of those books from Ire Aderinokun Instagram post.

November

Well, aside from writing codes, I spent time researching on ML/AI applications. I went through the profiles of some tech individuals like April, Denver and definitely Ire🙈.I got to learn certain things from their profiles and blogs. I really did something awesome too, I had my first ever studio session where I blessed a beat with my vocals, it didn’t really come out well but it was cool. Books I read and enjoyed: Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi and Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies by Nick Bostron.

December

I really enjoyed my December cause I got a lot of rest, took a break from coding, read a few times with zero pressure and I visited Guinea Conakry for the very first time.

I read one of the craziest book ever, Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, no doubt that this is one of my best book so far. I also read Start with Why and Unf*ck Yourself.

Moving on to 2020,

  • I will be starting a technical blog in January where I will be sharing contents and tutorials on python on relation to ML/Al . I hope to have written over 50 posts before end of the year. I aim to write a new article every week.
  • Building bits of autonomous applications using AI/ML libraries, join open source communities and secure an internship placement for 6 months in a good tech startup (well, I have not secured any yet and I have to start in March. I’m very much hireable!!)
  • I really hope I get to take my workouts seriously and do more exercises (but man’s been admiring Don Jazzy’s stature lately).
  • I’m definitely going to continue reading books, I plan on reading a minimum of 20 books throughout the year.
  • I will be taking a lot of pictures of myself. As a matter of fact, I’ll be blessing your timeline with awesome jpegs.

Happy new year in advance and enjoy your holidays.
